Since 1992, the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA) has been awarding the Asia Pacific Interior Design Awards (APIDA) to projects and designers they felt deserved the acknowledgment and recognition. 2023 was the 32nd year of APIDA. Voted on by designers, contractors, suppliers and other organisations within the non-profit and all related to interior design, these awards truly reflect the approval of the industry as a whole within the Asia Pacific region.
Gold Medal Winner in the Shopping Space Category: Hyeming Tam Studio (China)
Client: Beyond Appearances Art Paint Showroom
https://apida.hk/winner-detail/?year=2023
Established in 2018, Hyeming Tam Studio specializes in creating trend-leading, spatial designs for clients who have the same keen, forward-thing approach as the Studio. The characteristic and poetic spaces they create promote user values and experiential exploration. And nothing exemplifies that more than the project solution they provided for the Beyond Appearances Art Paint Showroom – a 200m2 art paint retail space located inside a shopping mall.
This is unlike any art paint retail space one would find in the West.
“We attempted to use the language of “deconstruction” in the space, drawing from Eastern thinking, inspired by classical gardens, freeing traditional imagery, infusing contemporary aesthetic consciousness, and narrating the eternal spirit of the East through modern creative methods.” – Hyeming Tab.
Guiding guests along a predetermined path, the design and atmosphere play on the guest’s emotions, slowly building a brand impression. Traditional Chinese gardens, the essence of a wandering garden, contemporary aesthetic philosophies incompact spaces were the inspiration behind the design, allowing the guests to explore how the diverse art paints integrated product placements enhanced their experience and perception of the space.
Other Awards
The design also won Silver for Interior Space and Exhibition Design Category in the A’ Design Award Competition in 2022.

They are recognised for work that nurtures influential design morphology and delivers fresh and exciting values to each commission.
